GAETI Day 21

Today is our follow-up workshop from the summer. I it was exciting to see everyone and to find out that we all have incorporated the things that we learned over the summer into our classrooms. It was great to see Dr. Bracey and Mrs. Latham. Dr. Bracey as usual gave us some valuable information and tools that can be used to enhance our creativity in our classrooms.

For lunch Dr. Kun Huang help us set up a twitter account and introduced other helpful sites. Dr. Sherman-Morris help us to create a Google Earth tour.

Today it was great to see everyone  and gain some informative information that I have found to be very useful. I can't wait until our next workshop.

Day 20:GAETI

Today is Friday June 26, 2015 the last day of GAETI 2015 workshop. It is bittersweet because I have meet some wonderful people here. I have truly enjoy every minute of these past 4 weeks. I have learned so much that I can't even put it in to words. I was so scared of technology but now I will embrace it with an open mind and be ready, willing and determined to learn as much as I can so that I can be the best teacher for my students.

Well everyday I blog about what I learned on that day, so today I am going to talk about the wonderful people that I have met and what each one has contributed to making this such and amazing experience. Mr. Sam Gilkey and Mrs. Virda Triplett and I work together and we were able to take this workshop together so much fun. On my first day I met Jennifer and Trevia they are so nice and helpful. It seems like I have known them forever. I am going to stay in touch with them because I now consider them as friends. Michael Adams was helpful when I need I was having trouble with my technology skills and also Elizabeth Chesney thanks two you both. Congrats to everyone on their ART awards we received from Mrs. Latham. THANKS MRS. LATHAM for all of your expert advice and for being so patience. I will miss you and art therapy. THANKS DR. BERISWILL for all of your help with the game boards, skype and camtasia . Flat Stanley was an adventure. THANKS DR. SHERMAN-MORRIS for the trip to the coal mine and scavenger hunt. THANKS DR. KUN HUANG for Blogger and all the other great technology you introduce. Thanks also for tell me the meaning of the number 6. THANK YOU DR. SANG LEE for canvas, infographics,socrative and for the patience that you had with us. LAST BUT NOT LEAST SPECIAL THANKS TO DR. PAMELA BRACEY for giving the opportunity to be apart of GAETI 2015. You did a wonderful job facilitating this workshop. The guest speaker we had were super and all the information presented was helpful. You made these past 4 weeks exciting and I looked forward to the workshop each day because each I learned so much.

Hope and Nancy have inspired me to learn Spanish well I see how that goes. Amy, Dainelle, Margaret, Nicchi, Cheryl, Edith and Coach it was a great to meet each on of you hope to see you all next time. NADIA THANK YOU for all of your help. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Each day has been a learning experience and as an educator I know that we should take every opportunity as a learning and teaching moment. GAETI is a workshop that every teacher should experience GAETI. THANKS GAETI 2015!!!!!!!!

Day 19: GAETI

Today started out so exciting, we skyped with a person for Turkey. He was so informative and excited to talk about his country and their culture. He talked about his work and the educational system there. I was amazed to find out the time difference. I want to visit Turkey so that I go shopping in the mall. I learned that it has 6,000 stores. Imagine the fun I could have there, it would be a shop til you drop vacation. Later we started to work on our lesson plans.

Today I went out to lunch Jenn Clark and Trevia Brownlee, we had a good time.  It seems like we have know each other forever but we met 3 weeks ago. I am going to miss talking to them but we will keep in touch by using some of this wonderful new technology I have learned.

After lunch we went to art and presented our art projects. Everyone had some beautiful artistic creations. Thanks MRS. LATHAM for all of your patience and guidance throughout this process. You are a great  TEACHER!!

After art went continued to work on our lesson plans and our web page. I am finished but kind of nervous about it. Well today is over and we only have 1 more day. I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Day 18: GAETI

Today is day 18 it hard to believe that this workshop is about to come to a close. I started out creating a infographic and audio boom. I am learning so much technology some that I did not know about. This has been an informative day. After lunch I put the finishing touches on my art project I think it turned out good if I have to say so myself.


Dr. Lee show us how to create a rubric. I did not know it was that easy to create a rubric.
Thanks Dr. Lee for all your help! Well I guess I  hope that the rain lets up some more before I leave.

Day 17: GAETI

Today we finished our video and it turned out good. We went to art to finish our glass. Later we work on our lesson plan and I think that I am still over thinking but it is all coming together. I really enjoyed skyping with the teacher from Taiwan. She was really nice of her to get up at 5:30 in  the morning to talk with us. I would really like to meet her in person one day. It is really nice that Dr. Beriswill have friends all over the world and are will to help her students with different cultural interactions. Thanks Dr. Beriswill.

Day 16: GAETI

Today we made adjustments to our video clip from Friday. We later had to go out with Stanley and record a video. It was fun going out doing a video. Later after lunch we started working on our lesson plan. I don't know why but I got brain freeze. I guess it seems like a lot and I started to feel overwhelmed. I know that I just have to calm down and put my thinking cap on. I know that this assignment is to help me become the best lesson planner and to teach my students about history in a fun and informative way. I want them to be able to apply what they learn and to retain the information for more than just one class period.

DAY 15: GAETI

Today we learn about the Federal Reserve Banks and how different regions of the country are assigned to certain Federal Reserve Banks . Mississippi is divided between two reserve banks.  We also learned that it is illegal to write on money.  This was so informative and we receive a lot helpful information to use in our respective classrooms. Later we learned about Prezi. After lunch we went to art and today I cut glass for my art project. Dr. Beriswill introduced us to Camtasia which was very interesting. This week has been very educational and fun. Thanks for another great week GAETI 2015.

Day 14: GAETI

Today with Dr. Lee we finish our web quest and learned how using ipads I  the classroom would be helpful. We later took a quiz in Socrative and created an account. This will be good for review. After lunch we went to art and continues to work on our project. Later we worked in groups to create a newspaper. This was fun and educational.

Day 13: GAETI

Today we Skype with a man from Chile , who talked about his life and the country. This was a good experience to talk to someone from a different country. Technology is a wonderful thing to have but sometimes it can be a little overwhelming when you try to learn new for the first time. But if we did not try new things we would miss out on so many things. I am so grateful that I have the chance to experience GAETI 2015. We later went to TK Martin Center, I was amazed at all the things that they are doing to help people. Technology again can reach people that really needs help that otherwise would not be able to have some independence in their lives. After lunch we went to lunch and once again it was great. Dr. Lee introduced us to a lot of new technology.

Day 12: GAETI

Today we started off by learning about Canvas. Dr. Sang Lee helped us to set up a Canvas account.  Ms. Amanda Powers talked about copyrighting and copy wrong.  This information was very informative. I learned that the simple things that we don't give much thought to can be wrong by infringing on someone work. I am glad that we were given this information so that we can share with  teachers and our students. After lunch we went back to lunch and add some touch-up to my art project.  Dr. Sang Lee talked about creating our web portfolio. Today I have been enlightened about a lot of different technology. I learned about storify. Today we learned a lot of information.

Day 11: GAETI

Today we have continues learning about technology. Dr. Bracey talked about the pros and cons of having BOYD in your schools. The responses were similar and there were some that took a different approach. All the ideas were good. After lunch we went to art to continues creating our masterpiece. Art is so relaxing. Mrs. Nashandra James talked about 1:1 Program in Madison County. Mrs. James  had some great ideas about getting the program started.  One thing that is echoed everyday is technology use in the classroom. We as educators have to improve our technology skills in order to be effective in the classroom. We are educating our future leaders so we must be prepared in order to prepare them.

Day 10: GAETI

Today is day 10 of GAETI and we have reached the half way mark. We are still learning so much. Today we learned about Native American Civil Rights presented by Nick Timmerman. I learned that there were at one time about twenty five Indian Tribes in Mississippi. Normally we only think about one tribe but there were many more.  The tour of the Grant Library was great seeing some of the things collected from his life was awesome to see. This a great experience. After lunch we continued our art which is always fun. The Archaeology Institute had some terrific things in there. I would love for my students to see them. The final tour of the day was the Geology Museum. There were so many different artifacts and one can learn a lot just by seeing them. Today was good. Looking forward to next week.

Day 9: GAETI

Today Ms. Lane introduced kidblog to us and I think that is good idea to use in the classroom. She really stressed using 21st century skills because our students really need to think critically and have media literacy. Mrs. Latham has gotten me excited by creating this masterpiece that I am working on. Art is so therapeutic and educational. I am having so much fun and learning so much. I am so glad that I am have the opportunity to be attending GAETI 2015. Dr. Bracey introduced our lesson plan template that we will be using to create a lesson plan. The template is a little different that the one I use but at the end the result will be the same a completed lesson plan

Day 8: GAETI

Today we learned about ISTE and other technologies. We worked other teachers in GAETI and took a test. It was interesting. After lunch we went to art class with Mrs. Latham. I enjoyed the class it was very relaxing and fun to create something. I don't feel creative but I guess I felt that way because I had never painted before. I am looking forward to creating more art. Maybe I will create a master piece and become a famous artist. This could become my second career but I think I had better remain a teacher because that is my passion. I will just have to incorporate both and become the best that I can be in both. Dr. Beriswill finished sharing how to complete our racing board game. I am going to practice on this to get more creative so that her hard work will not be wasted.

Day 7: GAETI

1.  Blogger and Games (kahoot )

2. I plan to use blogger to reflect on a typical day as a teacher in public school system. I will also use it to communicate with other teachers to share and gain new ideas to enhance may teaching skills.



Today Dr. Kun share ideas about lesson planning and how to better utilize these skills in the classroom. Dr. Beriswill show us how to create instructional board games. These games allows me as a teacher to be creative and to improve my technology skills. It will allow my students to show what they have learned and to have fun learning different skills. Michael finished talking about zip grade and Hope Friesen shared a fun game called Kahoot!. Today was interesting

Day 6: GAETI

This week has started as awesome as last week. Dr .Huang introduced backwards design in lesson planning. She also wanted us to do show and tell. Michael was the first to introduce to zip grade which can be very useful when grading test. After lunch we had a two guest that talked about TRAC 7 RIDES educational outreach.  Ms. Linda Clifton talked about the program that MDOT provides to schools K-12. Ms. Connie Gusmus , a science teacher had this hands on activity that allowed us to build a bridge and compete with against each other. This was a lot of fun and very educational. It allow us to show our creativity and have some fun. Ms. Stovall was the winner, so congrats to her. Mr. Gilkey came in second. Our next project for today is to build a web profolio. Thanks Dr. Kun today was great.

Day 5: GAETI

Today was so awesome. Dr. Pamela Bracey informed about twenty first skills. She also talked about soft skills and hard skills. She explain how important is that students learn soft skills early so that they will become better students and productive citizens in the workforce. Emily Tate discuss about  writing grant proposals for items that we might used in our classrooms. De'Marco Fomby safety specialist, talked about the dangers of drinking and driving. This first week of GAETI 2015 was wonderful.

Day 4: GAETI

Today Dr. Sherman-Morris has an exciting adventure prepared for us. We went on a field trip to the   mine. Well I guess I should say adventure instead of field trip it was so much fun. It was not just educational but fun as well.  Our driver was helpful because he explain so much about the mine and soil to us. . After we arrived at the mine a guide showed us a video explaining what coal was and how it was extracted from the ground. We learned about the process of how coal was converted to electricity. Another guide  who works at the mine was an excellent tour guide and he answered all our questions. He also show us how the land was being convert back so that the owner would have use of it in the future.The whole process was really great. I think that everyone should take a tour of the mine so that they can get a better understanding about how it works and looks.

Day3: GAETI

Today started out be very informative. Mr. Vinnie Segalini from MDE presented some very valuable information. Mr. Segalini was helpful in so many ways from creating lesson plans to understanding how important it was to remember to always teach the skills. After a nice relaxing lunch we had the pleasure of going on a great adventure. The Geocaching scavenger hunt. This is something that I will gladly incorporate to get my students physically active after sitting in a classroom all day. This is also a great activity to get their brains to gain exercise also. Today has been so exciting and I cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings. I know that it will be better than today because everyday seems to get better.

Day 2 GAETI

 Today had as much excitement as yesterday. We learn about Google map and Google Earth. This was exciting and very informative. Mr.  Rob McDougald  presented some very helpful information that made google map interesting. The tour of the Kinsey Collection  was so educational and I found out that there was a lot of things in the past that I did not know. The collection is something that everyone should see. Dr. Sherman-Morris time was informative and fun. Looking at how the earth has evolved over time was great. Mr. Michael Murphy presentation about the civil rights movement in the south and other parts of the country was good because it shows that segregation was not limited to Mississippi but other states as well. I learned that Ole MS was not the only university that did not want black Americas to enroll but also MS State and Southern MS. This is something that a lot of people might not know. Today was good and I look forward to tomorrow.

Day 1: Gaeti

Today was an adventure, I toured MSU campus and met some awesome teachers. The introduction to GAETI by Dr. Pamela Bracey and the GAETI team was amazing. The tips Mrs. Beth Downey presented about Magnolia got me to thinking about lessons plan for the upcoming school year. With the help of Dr. Joanne Beriswill I was able to create a blogger account and now I can share what I have learned with you. Today's experience has been great and I can not wait for the days to come.
